Good News
The word gospel means good news. But before you can understand the good news, you need to understand the bad news.
The Bad News
Our basic problem is this: God is holy, and we are not!
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23).
Because God is holy he cannot cannot tolerate our sin and must punish us for our sins. The Bible tells us that the punishment for sin is death and separation from God forever in hell.
“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23)
This being the case, can anything save us from the anger of a holy God on the day of judgment? Is there any hope?
The Good News
Yes there is hope.
The Bible tells us that, while God is holy, He is also love. Because of His love, God sent His Son Jesus to come to earth, live a sinless life and then take the punishment of death in our stead. This was the only way sinners could be justly pardoned.
“For the wages of sin is death BUT the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
(Rom 6:23).
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life
(John 3:16).”
If the Lord moves your heart to repentance and trust in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then you will be saved.
What’s next?
If you truly have repented and believed then your life will never be the same again. The Spirit of God has changed you and you are now called a child of God. As such you must now live your life as a child of God, you must continue to fight against sin and temptation, you must worship with God’s people and seek to serve Christ in every way possible.
