Unto Us A Child Is Born—Prince Of Peace

Isaiah 9:1-7
For To Us A Child Is Born - Prince of Peace
We are a warring people.
At the start of the 20th century, there were some hopes that we'd be past it, but instead we see conflicts continue going on here and there.
There have been attempts to stop them which only ended up to more wars.
People see the obstacle for peace in their opponents.
Is peace even possible?
If it is, will it ever be achieved?
How do we even define peace?
Is peace the absence of wars and conflicts?
The Bible claims that peace is possible and that it is certain to come. It will come through the birth of a Son, and only through Him.
This Prince brings personal, political and eternal peace. Since the beginning He built a bridge between heaven and earth, God and human.
Prince = ruler, champion, conqueror
I. Peace that Jesus has
We look at the person of Christ. He is perfectly the Prince of peace and at peace. We were not. We were warring against God. Now that we are believers of God, we are still warring - against sin.
Jesus is at peace because He isn't like Adam nor any of us. His is perfectly one with the Father's will. He doesn't have a divided heart, but a mind set on His Father.
Even in the midst of severe turmoil lamenting over what was about to happen to Him on the cross, He had the peace and clarity of mind to care for His disciples.
James 4:1, "What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?"
John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
Isaiah 26:3, "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you."
II. Peace that Jesus brings
a. Personal
John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. NOT as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
The world's peace is discontentment, covetousness and war. There is only one place where we can find true and lasting peace - Christ.
b. Political
Isaiah 9:5 says war will cease one day, "For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire."
We tried new political systems, leaders and they sometimes help a bit but never really fix the problem. The Bible is clear that only One person can grant this peace.
How will sin be removed? Verse 7b says, "establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this."
As we wait for that day, we can trust that that day is coming. As we trust that that day will come, we can forgive and be gracious.
Romans 12:14-21, "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
c. Eternal
The chief concern of the Prince of Peace is not to bring peace between you and your neighbours or to your own soul, but to bring peace between you and God.
Colossians 1:19-20, "For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."
This Child is born and reconciled us to God through His blood which shed on the cross!
Romans 5:1, "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
And now internal peace. The reason why we can live in peace in a warring world is because we have peace with God.
Do you have that peace?
Do you know the Prince of Peace?
Believe in Christ and receive peace.
