In Trouble And In Joy #2 | A New Testament Study in Sorrow
1. The Life and Ministry of Jesus Christ, the Man of Sorrows.
Stepping from the dark days of the book of Lamentations into the New Testament does not mean that we have put hardship and sadness behind us.
The New Testament centres on the life and ministry of the Man of Sorrows who was well-acquainted with grief, and who knew the hostility of sinners against Himself (Heb. 12:3), and who was crushed for our iniquities (Isaiah 53:3-5).

2. Paul – An Apostle and Servant of the Man of Sorrows
The apostle Paul, in his faithful and fruitful service of Christ, also knew much of opposition, persecution and suffering. (2 Cor. 1:3-10, 2 Cor. 6:4-10).

3. The Church – The Persecuted & Persevering People of the Man of Sorrows
Christians will also know times of intense and prolonged sadness and suffering due to their allegiance to Christ. “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you…” (John 15:18-20)
