How to pray – Part 2

When the disciples asked the Lord this question, He taught them what we know as the Lord’s prayer. Eph 6:18 tells us that we ought to pray with the help and aid of the Spirit. And in Heb 4:16, we see that we must pray with confidence, boldly. Being confident makes all the difference. Do we have faith and confidence that God will hear and answer our prayers? TWO REASONS WHY WE SHOULD COME WITH CONFIDENCE |||||| Reason#1 WE HAVE A SUPREME HIGH PRIEST Heb 4:14

Heb 3: 1 This scripture is for believers (holy brothers).

Heb 9:12 tells us that our High Priest has secured for us eternal redemption.

And where is this High Priest today? Heb 10:11-12 tell us that He is seated at the right hand of God, whereas the other highpriests could never sit in the holy of holies. Moreover they were prevented by death from continuing in office. Heb 7:27 shows us how our High Priest is able to serve to the uttermost. And He is able to save to the “guttermost.” Rom 8:33-34 is clear. Who can bring any charge against those for whom our High Priest is interceding! So we go to Him and say: “Please forgive me for my lack of confidence and for allowing the cares of the world to make me worry.”

|||||| Reason#2  WE HAVE A SYMPATHETIC HIGH PRIEST (Heb 4:15) Heb 2:17-18 He had to be made like us, so He could be a merciful and faithful High Priest. He had to come into the world and become like us. He knows what it is to be man. He is able to help us. He is able to sympathise wih us, because He has gone through what we have, without sinning. Heb 5:7-8 This is not about the suffering on the cross but that of His being in the flesh through those 33 years. He was often crying and praying. He knows what we go through. That is why we can be confident that He indeed sympathises with our weakness. Jesus knows all about our struggles; / He will guide ’til the day is done: / There’s not a Friend like the lowly Jesus: / No, not one! no, not one!
