Six Joys Of The Resurrection
Paul here is reminding the Corinthian church of the importance and centrality of the Gospel - the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. This gospel is coming under attack as people are saying that there is no resurrection of the death, consequently, it has negatively impacted even the faith of some Christians living then.
There are many things in our culture today which have impact our hold of the Gospel. We ought to labour to consider our theology, sometimes even the secondary ones.
We need to be reminded every Easter and every Lord's day that one day God will raise us up and restore us to glory.
Here are the 6 joys of resurrection:
1. Because there is resurrection, then our preaching is powerful
- One of the most important markings of Christianity is our message of hope, but not the resurrectionless hope that the secular world is enjoying today.
2. Because there is resurrection, our faith is meaningful
- Every aspect of our faith is dependent on the resurrection (e.g. justification, glorification, sanctification, assurance of salvation) of Christ. Because He is alive, our faith is true.
3. Because there is resurrection, we can trust our Bible
- Jesus is alive and proved to be the perfect and reliable witness of God and His words are worthy of our faith and trust and hope.
4. Because there is resurrection, we are justified
- The justification brought about by His death really justified us. We are no more in our sins.
5. Because there is resurrection, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have not perished
- Jesus died and is raised again so we have hope that we can be reunited with our loved ones who died in the Lord.
6. Because there is resurrection, our lives are not pitiable but enviable lives
- Many believers (old and new) who suffered persecution and loss in Christ endured because they believed that there is life beyond this world. God has promised and prepared for them a reward in heaven.
Because Christ died and was raised again for our sake, we claim,
"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." 2 Cor. 4:17
