The Lord Jesus Is Superior Over the Angels
The Lord Jesus Is Superior Over the Angels
Hebrews 1:4
There is a word that we have to listen to, a word mediated by the angels, given to us by His Son who made the world, the radiance of God’s glory and the One who upholds all things in His hands, the incarnate Son.
“The creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope, that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
Romans 8:20-21
All things have been give to His hands.
And everything depended on the obedience of the man Jesus. He is the Last Adam.
“I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.” (Psalms 40:8)
How superior is He?
– Psalm 2, to which of the angels did He ever say, “You are my son, today I have begotten You.”
– Galatians 4:4, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law…”
the Infinite God becoming a man is beyond our comprehension. It is utter humility on the part of our God.
– 2 Samuel 7:12-14, “When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”
The promise to David was messianic. It would be obvious to any sensible reader of the Bible that Nathan was not talking about Solomon, but referring instead to the One greater than Solomon!
– Isaiah 53:5, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
– Hebrews 1:7-8, Angels are superior over men but they are created beings. On the other hand, v. 8 says about the Son, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
– Colossians 1:16-17, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
– Psalms 110:1, “The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.””
Clearly the Lord Jesus occupies a place higher than the angels. He surpasses them by far and they worship Him. And we, also, are called to worship this God-man who sits on the throne of absolute authority, before whom all knee will bow and tongue confess that He is Lord – all that is in heaven and on earth!
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
Matthew 17:5
Indeed, let us listen to Him!
