The Word

'The Word' from John 1:1-18. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
God reveals Himself through His names and attributes. Examples are Yahweh (I am) and Emmanuel (God with us).
One title is THE WORD, which we see in John 1 vs 1, 14.
John focuses on the aspect of the eternality of who Jesus is and where He has come from. John’s agenda as clearly spelled out in Jn 20:31 is that we may believe that Jesus is God's Son and that in so doing we will have life.
For today, let us look at six points about this title The Word.
1. Jesus is present in the world in Old Testament times and He can be seen in its pages. The Trinity is seen as God, the Word, and the Spirit. Jesus is in the words and identifies with it.
2. We can see Jesus' relationship in the Godhead, which is one Being, one Nature, subsisting in three Persons. The Father's very Power, wisdom, perfection, love, etc is seen in the Word of God.
3. Jesus's ministry to us as Prophet (eternal communication),
4. Jesus ministry to us as PRIEST (mediates a relationship and fellowship by speaking to us through the Incarnation).
5. Jesus ministry to us as KING (rules the world by His word with His kingly sword).
6. It tells us about the ministry of the Word today, as we preach the word. Faith in and abiding in the word is to believe and abide in Jesus.
In a very real sense the word of God is Jesus. How wonderful it is that we have access to the Bible, and in this we have access to Christ Himself! The eternal Word has been with us from the beginning. We must treasure the Book and abide in it.
