Supremacy of Christ

Supremacy of Christ (Hebrews 1:1-4)

The author of Hebrews seeks to re-orientate the church back to the supremacy of Christ.

Christ is:
1. THE FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S REVELATION (v. 1-2)
Then God spoke to us through the prophets in various ways (e.g. visions, types and shadows) but NOW we have a message clear and full in Christ.
If in Christ we have the fulfillment and fulness of revelation, then we must not go further than Christ in times of persecution and troubles. We must ever all the more cling to Him.

2. THE EMBODIMENT OF GOD’S NATURE (v. 3) – this is why we must stop at Christ. He is both Man and God, the Eminent One, the First and the Last, Alpha and Omega.
So immense is this glory yet it is contained in Christ. Our eyes once couldn’t behold the face of God, but now we see what God is like in Christ.
This God told us to imitate Him (He did not just leave us to it) and so sent the Holy Spirit to live in and among us and sanctify us.

3. THE OBJECT OF GOD’S WORSHIP (v3) – because He is way superior to the angels, truly God and equal to God, therefore our lives must be lived in worship to Him.
“It Is finished.” Salvation is finished in Christ. He laid His life down as the perfect sacrifice for sin, was raised again and now sitting at the right hand of the Father.
Though evil tempt us and shall troubles and trials come to us, yet He is for us and promised to lead us to glory.

May He grow ever larger on us as we grow deeper in Him.
