Who is Jesus

Who is Jesus Christ? Every individual/group has an opinion. Despite all the confusion, He is still the centre of human history. God tells us who Jesus really is, through the scriptures. We get a glimpse of who He is in this text.

THE CREATOR GOD Col 1: 15-16  In Colossae were false teachings and heresies that denied the deity of Jesus. Jn 1:18, Col 2:9 We must look at Jesus to know what God is like. Vs 15 of Col 1 says that Jesus is the Firstborn of all creation. What does this mean? It is a grand declaration that Jesus is the supreme One, the preeminent One. An example of 'firstborn used to mean pre-eminence is found in Psalm 89, where David is called the firstborn, although he was the youngest son. Jesus is the greatest out of everything that exists. This is because He created everything. Gen 1:1 God created all things. Col 1:16 Jesus created all things. Nothing can ever be greater than Him. Some say, if Jesus is the Creator, then He must be evil, because of the evil and tragedy we see around us and in nature. On the otherhand, when Jesus created the world, it was declared very good. It was paradise. But man rebelled and sin, death, and chaos came into the world. So He is not to be blamed, humanity is. THE GOD WHO SUSTAINS Col 1:17 Jesus holds every part of creation together. Heb 1:3 tells us that He upholds all things by the word of His power. He made the world and is still interested in the world He is the God who sustains. In Him all things consist. Moment by moment, He sustains and keep us alive. He keeps everything together. It is because of Him that the atoms do not fly apart? He is more than a mere religious man, more than a prophet. When Jesus was was a baby, held by Mary and Joseph, the only reason that was possible was because He was holding those arms that were holding Him. THE GOD WHO REDEEMS Col 1:18-22 We are God's enemies, we who exist moment by moment because of Him, and yet we are foolish enough to declare war with Him. We are alienated from God. We are sinners. The longer we live, our sin account only grows longer and longer. But Jesus comes to us! He reconciles us to Himself. He comes to end the war and declares peace. Our sin said "Death" but Jesus came to rescue us and paid our penalty on the cross. Jesus was buried in the tomb. But the grave could not hold Him. Because of Him, when we repent, we are counted holy and above reproach, and reconciled with Him.  Do you know the Jesus who is Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer?
