God With Us
Regardless of what went on in history or what goes on today, we must take it as a great opportunity to remember, reflect with praise, and share with others the birth of Jesus: GOD WITH US "God with us" is a statement from God, which is miraculous in its coming to pass, that should cause us all to fall on our knees and worship. |||| WHO THIS CHILD IS God with us. What God is being spoken about? Laban accused Jacob of stealing his gods. In the 10 Commandments, we read, "You shall have no other gods before Me." There being many lords and gods of human making, it is not foolish to ask what God is being spoken about. Infact many who claim to be 'Christian' worship a different God. When someone preaches a different gospel, they preach a different god. The Child in the manger, is the God of holy scripture. He is the great Creator: without Him was not anything made that was made. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He is the God of the apostles, God in human flesh. We must respond to this Child as the wise men did. They fell down and worshipped Him and offered their gifts to Him. After Peter had walked those few steps on the water, and after the wind ceased, those in the boat fell down and worshipped, when they realised that He was the Son of God. When John saw this holy God, He fell down as though dead. At this Christmas time, let us remember that He is God. Wesley's lines show the sense of awe we ought to feel. "Our God contrasted to a span incomprehensibly made man." |||| WHY THIS CHILD WAS BORN Why should this God become 'God with us" He who cannot look at sin came to dwell among sinners? He who cast the devil out of heaven, who drove Adam and Eve out of the garden, who will one day cast the devil and sinners into hell --- did He become God with us? Paul said of this Child that He though being in very nature God, emptied Himself (Phil 2) John said of the child: The Word became flesh and dwelt among usAnd being found in human form, Jesus became obedient to death - even death on a cross. If we see the cradle without the cross in Christmas, it is a great tragedy. We must be moved by awe, and respect, and joy at the same time by this Child who was given. 'Joy to the world, the Lord has come.'
'You will call His name Jesus for He will save His people from their sin.'
