Hidden Reefs and Waterless Clouds
Jude 1:12-16

Ps. Ian gave us a quick refresher of the past weeks’ sermons/study given on the book of Jude.

Now we come to verses 12-16.

3 things to describe the false teachers and believers:
1. Their worth
a. Hidden reefs at your love feasts – be wary of these false believers who gather around the Lord’s Table along with God’s people but are not taking it in a worthy manner (1 Cor. 11:27)
b. Sheperds feeding themselves – what should be sheperds doing? Feeding the sheep! These false teachers, instead, are using their positions to gain for themselves!
c. Waterless clouds – they are utterly useless and worthless. All they deliver is to obscure the sun. They promise every benefit but is all talk.
Blown by the wind – they change their theology in the direction of culture.
d. Fruitless trees – worthless, pointless, and judged.
e. Wild waves casting up the foam of their own shame – false believers exuding pride and conceit but are only casting up their shame.
f. Wandering stars – if you follow them, you will be lost!

(The one we are being called to follow – Christ, is the very opposite of these people
a. He is Rock – firm foundation
b. The Good Sheperd that lays down His life
c. Spring of Living Water
d. The True Vine
e. Declares “be silent” to the raging waves
f. Bright Morning Star)

2. Their end
Judgment is coming on these false teachers and believers, those who would abuse the precious Bride of Christ.

3. Their joy (lack thereof) – to us it may seem that they are one of the happiest people in the world by following after all their desires and coveting,
But Jude described them in verse 16 as “grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.”

2 things that every Christian should meditate on everyday:
– Christ has died for my sin
– Christ is returning in glory

How much does the Second Coming of Christ impact your everyday life?

To close the sermon, Pastor Ian read Jude 1:17-25.
