The Holy Spirit Falls On The Gentiles

The reason why we spend so much time going through this portion of Scripture—the Gentile inclusion in the salvation story—is not just because scripture itself talks about it a number of times but also because this sequence of verses does nothing less than protect the gospel of salvation by grace alone.
We are looking at the free gift of the Spirit of God to the Gentiles. We are going to see the Biblical evidence of the Spirit's ministry.
1. THE MEANS OF THE SPIRIT'S COMING IS ALWAYS THROUGH THE WORD
It is wrong for us to both universalise a particular occurrence or particularise a general rule. It is wrong to assume that the coming of the Holy Spirit always manifests itself people speaking in tongues.
-What causes us to be born again? The Spirit through the Word
-What sanctifies us? The Spirit through the Word
-What convicts of us sin? The Spirit through the Word
-What produces fruit in our lives? The Spirit through the Word
John 6:63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life."
Right now, we need the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our church, and the only way that this is to be accomplished is through the word. Open your Bible as often as you can and know what Christ is saying to you. Know it or die.
2. THE PURPOSE OF THE SPIRIT'S COMING IS ALWAYS TO MARK US AS GOD'S PEOPLE
God does not dwell with people who are not His own. When the Jews heard that the Spirit was also given to the Gentiles, their mouths were shut, and they made no more objections. Why? Because there is no greater mark of divine election than for God to make a dwelling with His people.
Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Have we meditated on how big it is to say that "God is in us"? Does it cause us to fear and tremble at the holiness and greatness of our God who now dwells in us? How then should we live individually and collectively as a church knowing that this is true?
3. THE EVIDENCE OF THE SPIRIT'S COMING IS ALWAYS REPENTANCE UNTO LIFE
Acts 11:18 When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
Peter didn't have to spell it out. The people just knew that alongside the Spirit's coming, repentance is also granted. Where the Spirit is, there is genuine repentance.
The key diff between a man-made revival and a genuine revival is repentance and the preaching of the word.
