The number of counsellors has seen a significant increase in this nation and the demand for them is still growing.
This increase is not because we are more crazy now than we used to be, but this indicates that people find it more and more difficult to find a person to confide in, who listens and sympathises.
However, for us Christians, we have a Wonderful Counsellor - the Christ, as Isaiah prophesied.
Now some have the tendency to say that the times then are so different from now. But Ps. Ian gave a list of things that he finds to be strikingly similar between Israel and the modern West, especially when it comes to "being in the dark" despite experiencing prosperity.
What is the meaning of "Wonderful Counsellor"?
"Wonder" - reserved to speak especially of God and His Words

Jesus, when described in this way, is not just being referred to as extraordinary but that He Himself is a wonder. (Edward Young)
"Counsellor" - Jesus counsels by way of command, instructions, and rule, simply because He knows us and He knows the solution before we even know it, who loves us despite our being sinful.
Qualities of a Good Counsellor

*empathy
How does He counsel?
- through His Word - His Word has both the instructions and the grace
- through His people - wise counsel that is sanctified in the Scriptures, means of grace in the gathered body
- through prayer - Jesus, through prayer, takes away our anxieties, gives peace and guard to our hearts and minds

Go to Him who is our Wonderful Counsellor and find rest for your souls.
