Baptism Prepares Us For Suffering

BAPTISM PREPARES US FOR SUFFERING
1 Peter 3:17-21
Baptism is the start and end to many things. It is the start of the Christian life, and is also the start of suffering, trials and persecution. It is the end of the guilt of sin and the dominion of sin, and it can also mean an end to family ties and comforts. Baptism is offensive to people because it is a public declaration of radical separation from one's old (worldly, sinful) self. It is offensive to family as you are saying that everything about you till you came to to faith is dirty. Baptism is initiation into Christ, our Lord, who Himself was crucified.
1. SALVATION THROUGH SUFFERING: Vs 18 "Christ suffered once for sin" to BRING US TO GOD. Christ is like a vessel that transports people safely, through God's wrath and judgement, to God. As Christ suffered, He brought us safely to God, sheltering us through His wrath. Like how through Noah (then suffering a lot of persecutions and hardships) and the ark, God saved eight people from the wrath of God.
2. PREPARATION THROUGH BAPTISM: Vs 21 "Baptism, which corresponds to this . . ." Baptism prepares you by giving you a picture of the process (Christian life). It reminds us of how the Ark worked, the difficulties and struggles but also the success—being buried and then being raised from the water. Baptism reminds you that you will make it in the end. It teaches us to suffer well. Baptism is a sign of salvation. Like the wedding ring encourages you by reminding you of marriage and the agreement you made, baptism encourages by reminds you of the promise Christ made! Phil 1:6, Heb 12:1b-2.
3. VICTORY THROUGH CHRIST: Vs 19 "proclaimed to the spirits in prison" Jesus tells the Satanic powers in hell (who are also the ones that are behind the suffering and persecution of believers) that Noah made it, that He Himself has made it through and was going to the Father, that the church will make it, that THEY DID NOT WIN. You will make it safely onto the other side. Christ has promised this and will surely bring into completion.
REMEMBER YOUR BAPTISM. YOU WILL MAKE IT.
