Peter’s Message To The Gentiles

PETER'S MESSAGE TO THE GENTILES from Acts 10:36-43
We have been to many meetings in our lives, most of them life-shaping. We see one important meeting that took place between Peter and Cornelius, finally signifying Gentile inclusion in the history of salvation.
Last week, we tackled how God shows no partiality on the basis of gender, race, riches or perceived righteousness. However, that He is partial to His children and people on the basis of His grace.
Peter now finally goes to the Gentiles. He knows exactly what he needs to do—he needs to share the Gospel.
Peter especially focused on the following in his preaching as important points in the Gospel presentation:
1. THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST
- two important realities:
Jesus came TO the Jews but not exclusively FOR them because Jesus is "LORD OF ALL". (v.36) Therefore, they need to repent and believe in Him in order to be saved.
2. PUBLIC WORKS OF CHRIST (v. 38)
a. Peter elaborated on Christ's ministry by starting with the baptism of John because at his baptism, two important things happened:
- God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit
- God spoke from heaven and introduced His Son to the world
These things symbolise the legitimacy of Christ's being of God and being God Himself.
b. Peter told of the cross briefly. According to him, Jesus not only died but was cursed by being hung on a tree.
c. Peter talked about the resurrection - Him appearing NOT TO ALL but to a few who had been chosen by God to be witnesses
3. JUDGEMENT OF CHRIST (v. 42)
Jesus is Lord of all and so Judge of all. God the Father gave Him all authority in heaven and in earth. (Matt. 28:18)
Sinners will stand before the One whom they rejected. The folly of sin will be on full display on that Day.
For Christians, this brings immense comfort, knowing we will stand before the One who loves us perfectly and is working tirelessly to present us as flawless before the Father. What confidence this should bring us!
Verse 43 is a challenge to all.
"To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
On that day, will you stand as an enemy of Righteousness or a believer of it? Believe in Him and share in the joy of His salvation.
