The Church’s Great Mission (of making disciples, and who is a disciple?)
Our task is to make disciples by preaching the gospel (that He died for our sins according to the scriptures and that He was burried and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures), baptising those disciples, and teaching those disciples to observe all that the Lord has commanded.
WHO IS A DISCIPLE? A true disciple abides in the word John 8:31-32. Those who abide in Jesus bear much fruit and prove that they are disciples John 15:7-8. A true disciple is one who loves Jesus with a love that outstrips their love for all else Luke 14:25-33. Is Jesus our treasure? Matt 13:44-46, Matt 6:19-21. The things of earth grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. Luke 14:33. Disciples are to deny themselves. The Christian faith is a cross-carrying faith. Luke 9:23. In this cross carrying is also joy Hebrews 12:13. We have the mission of making disciples.
